"We recently had an advertisement for new board members at HHL. Over 200 enquiries, 140 completed applications later we were able to start the selection process. This was for both independents and tenants. We moved away from tenant elections following a full review of governance procedures. The idea that it is truly democratic is questionable in that tenants when elected do not formally 'represent' other tenants. I know many struggle with this one."
"(This is) the method that my own housing association uses. I applied for the role, was interviewed and appointed. Having worked with other tenant groups I can see how difficult it is for people to get to grips with things and become truly involved. I work in the sector so I am fortunate in that regard but I do my absolute best to help others understand things. I particularly enjoyed the thread about jargon. Guilty as charged! I always ask the tenants that I work with to stop me if I start doing it."
