Residents Scruntiny Award - first date nearly sold out

Our new Residents Scrutiny Award can help staff and tenants work together to achieve better services for tenants.

The Resident Scrutiny Award has been set up by us, ahead of new regulatory requirements, to be implemented by the Tenants Services Authority (TSA) in April 2010.

The award is taking place in Trafford Hall on 4th and 5th of March and has nearly sold out, but don't worry if you miss this - other dates are available around the country. We have confirmed new dates at Trafford Hall on 20 and 21st April and in London at the Methodist International Centre on 22nd and 23rd April.

Yvonne Atkinson from the Board Development Agency explains:

"We have introduced this ground-breaking award as many resident scrutiny panels are being set up by housing organisations right now. Tenants need to be equipped with the confidence and skills to act as a critical friend to the organisation they are scrutinising. The course is also aimed at staff to give them the know-how to run an effective resident scrutiny service."

Residents and staff are taken through an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) endorsed programme over two days. The topics covered include the range of scrutiny activities required, creating effective teams and evaluating the effectiveness of resident scrutiny. Participants will also be asked to keep a portfolio of their learning.

Megan Hughes also of Selly Oak Constituency Tenant Group who took part in an earlier Board Development Agency award designed for tenants said:

"Its about an opportunity for tenants to take more control over the places that they live. They are the people who live in the property, twenty four hours a day and face the problems and frustrations. Anything that can help you feel more confident to take control is good."

The two day Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) endorsed Resident Scrutiny Award can be set up an in-house or you can join a regional programme.
