The Intermediate Governance Award - What it covers
This is a programme for the new or experienced member who wishes to learn more and to be more effective in the Boardroom.
- Understanding what governance means
- Developing effective communication and teamwork skills for good governance
- Developing effective procedures for good governance
- Understanding the stakeholders' perspectives values and interests in good governance Diversity and equality - agreeing and planning goals for diversity
We do 5 full day or 7 half day sessions, best taken over 5 or 7 months.
The process
These events are not run as training sessions; they are run more as discussion groups where people can relax and try out the tools we talk about.
People can share experiences and challenge themselves in a safe, supportive environment.
How is the work assessed?
These are like Vocational Awards which means that people learn by doing and by proving they can do the things they learn.
Each session has various learning points and at the end we ask people what they have learned.
They then pick one of these and must implement or trial what they have chosen. They then 'write this up' to include in their 'portfolio'.
There may be further checks of learning by multiple-choice questions, a question and answer session, a form to be completed or a mini test.
There will also be a simple project for each member to work on in his or her own time.
Our Tutors are simply a telephone call away and we provide full support to people needing help to write up their portfolios.
A part of this folder becomes the 'Portfolio of Evidence' which is handed in to us at the end of the programme and after checking by us then handed to ILM (the awarding body). They confirm the award; return the portfolio (a useful permanent reference guide) and we all celebrate your success!
The Award gives:
- More confidence
- In-depth understanding
- Makes you more effective as a person or a board member
- A transferable Award and skills which can enhance your career
- A recognition that you have reached a set standard
- Retained knowledge. (We often forget training but we remember our education!)
The time commitment
- Up to 5 Full days or 7 Half day training sessions plus limited course work depending on the level of Award,
- Additional top up training or 1-two-1 support as required,
- A qualification within 6-10 months
The Investment
Higher than 'standard training' because of the assessment process and additional material and support provided; but the quality and skill retention is far higher because of the educational processes we use.
A place on either the full day sessions or the afternoon/evening sessions would cost £ 750 plus VAT. This includes all our costs expect the £ 65 per head enrolment fee to ILM which we collect on their behalf.
We can run 'Taster days' of these programmes if your members are unsure they want to commit.
