Hugh Laird Director

Hugh Laird is a qualified housing professional with 33 years experience. Working for 19 of those years in housing management for Local Authourities and Housing ALMOs, eventually becoming Deputy Chief Executive of a Housing Association.

Hugh has been a housing consultant for the last 14 years and has also been a board member of a Housing Association. Hugh specialises in rescue packages for housing organisations and has helped those who have needed advice and guidance on disciplinary or dispute issues. Hugh has over 10 years experience advising, reviewing and training in governance in the social housing sector. He has led training for 17 years including directors’ development programmes and has developed expertise in the full range of Governance issues.

Yvonne Atkinson, Director

Yvonne Atkinson is a solicitor with 18 years experience of working at board level in large public and private sector organisations. She was a board member of a Housing Association for six years and formerly held the position of Deputy Chief Executive in a Local Authority. She has also run a successful social business providing training.

Yvonne is a qualified Organisation and Executive coach and is passionate about governance. Yvonne has developed and written six Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) endorsed governance programmes for the Board Development Agency and has spearheaded their groundbreaking governance review toolkit. Yvonne has also led Executive and Organisational coaching diplomas with groups and individuals.

Claire Wickes, Communications Manager

Claire has had quite a diverse career, working in: Tourism, Finance, Further Education and the various facets of Marketing since leaving university.

Her career initiated with a stint in Public Relations in the run up to the 96 Olympic Games in Atlanta (USA), which developed her interest in writing. On her return she spent several years working for the National Tourist Board, VisitBritain, working her way around the various facets of Marketing including: Advertising, Photography and Publications.

However, after relocating back to Devon, Claire returned to her first passion - Communications. She spent the last three years working for the South West Regional Development Agency in Communications, before joining the Board Development Agency.

Kate Chambers, Centre Manager

Kate is the Board Development Agency's Centre Manager. She is responsible for the organisation of training candidates and their work. She keeps in regular contact  with them to ensure they are still enthusiastic about the course and see if they need any additional help with the work. She comes from a sales and recruitment background working for a blue chip company as their Recruitment Coordinator and prior to that she did both retail and business to business sales.
